2020 Writer’s Guild of Canada nomination!

4 Mar

Well holy hell this is grand news! Being nominated for a WGC Award is tickling me all kinds of pink cause it’s the peers, ya know? And to be nominated with two JANN’s and two Schitt’s Creek’s? That’s just the best.

Fun fact, the script I’m nominated for is called ‘Tag, You’re I.T.’ which features an animated cameo of my dog, Hunter in the opening scene…

AND… Hunter was also in the Season 2 finale of Schitt’s Creek! (And yeah, that’s me doing terrible background acting.)

So frankly, I think Hunter needs a cameo on JANN to round out the nomination good luck. He’s ready and willing to work:

2020 Canadian Screen Award nominations!

17 Feb

What the who? How exciting is this!

Nominated for my writing on Corner Gas: Animated AND the 2019 Canadian Screen Awards. Plus, both shows got their own nominations.

Congrats to everyone involved. There are always so many great minds on a single script. There’s no way I can take all the credit, but I will for sure buy a fancy dress and represent for both shows!

Girl’s Nite Out – Collingwood, Ontario

7 Feb

So great to be back for the second year in a row at the Collingwood Legion for another sold out Girl’s Nite Out show on International Women’s Day weekend.

Shout out to our second-half talk show guest, 95 year-old Joyce who used to be a microbiologist. At 85 she got bored and started taking flying lessons. You know AS ONE DOES AT 85.

She could not for the life of her figure out what we wanted her to do in the ‘audience sound effects’ scene, but it was the best kind of gong-show.

Improv in Algonquin

13 Sep

Sometimes you get asked to do an improv show with two of your best friends, Ashely Comeau and Karen Parker in weird-ass places. Like a camp in the middle of nowhere in September that you have to take a rickety boat to get to, filled with women, yoga and a lot of wine.

The weather is rainy and terrible and it feels like the beginning of a horror movie…

But then you realize you can do a show in matching plaid shirts and it all feels a little better…

And then the show is over and you’re drinking with a hundred wicked women and Karen gets this crazy cool shot…

And that’s when you realize your day job of making people laugh is pretty damn good.

Somehow, whenever it comes time for backstage selfies, Elvira Kurt is nowhere to be found. Then she comes in, sees we’re doing selfies and yells at us for not including her in the selfies. So enjoy the most recent round of selfies sans Elvira. (No idea where Jennine Profetta went in the last pic, but Karen Parker and I are clearly horrified/amused.)

Ladies Against Humanity @ The Rio Theatre

21 Mar

Always a pleasure to knock some dirty improv out of the park with these crazy ladies. Thanks to Daniel Chai and The Fictionals for inviting me to play Ladies Against Humanity. Oh god, the number of vagina jokes we did…

So much fun playing with Angela, Rae-Lyn, Clare, Margret, Ese, Denise and Alex. Everyone’s hair is so on point in this photo.

We won 2 Davey Awards!

15 Mar

WE BROUGHT HOME THE GOLD!

Double Barrel Wins Two Davey Awards for Hamilton/Burlington SPCA Campaign Video, written by myself and Jennifer Goodhue.

The spot stars Jennifer Goodhue, a bunch of adorable rescue cats and my dog, Hunter.

From the Double Barrel press release:

***************

It’s a tail as old as time: a great idea deserved a good home and after a few laughs, an award-winning match was made.

What started as an idea for a comedy sketch (“How about we show people speed dating, but with cats?”) became an online hit (10,000 views on launch day) and won two Davey Awards, in part because funny got paired with the right client and cause.

Let me back up and re-introduce you to some funny ladies I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Diana Frances (The Hour, The Debaters) and Jennifer Goodhue (Baroness Von Sketch Show, This Hour has 22 Minutes, Comedy Inc.) of F & Good Comedy have been strategic comedy partners of Double Barrel for almost three years. While collaborating on original comedy content, we’ve lightened up some pretty heavy issues and had a great time doing it. But none have brought home so many awards.

When we approached the Hamilton Burlington SPCA with the idea, not only were they excited about our vision, but it was a perfect fit to promote their Meet Your Match pet program. Starring animals Spike, Knuckles, Magoo, Sephora and Odin, in SPCA: Cat Speed Dating we had some laughs at the very real awkwardness of speed dating, while educating on HBSPCA’s valuable pet matchmaking process.

We are so proud of this piece and are excited that the Davey Awards have recognized Double Barrel and SPCA: Cat Speed Dating with a gold award in the category of Online Film/Video and a silver in Online Film/Video – Comedy. It’s a privilege to be able to celebrate this award with the team at the HBSCPA and to use our funny business to support the great work they do in our community.

Canadian Screen Awards 2018

12 Mar

Had a great time writing with these maniacs on the Canadian Screen Awards. Those maniacs being Steve Dylan, Graham Chittenden, Fraser Young and of course hosts Emma Hunter and Jonny Harris – who I stupidly didn’t get photos of.

But I did go total fan-girl and get a picture with Kim Coates – cause c’mon. Tig!!

Girl’s Nite Out – St. Catherines

8 Mar

What better way to celebrate International Women’s Day than two sold out shows at the First Ontario Place in St. Catherines with Jan Caruana, Jennine Profeta, Elvira Kurt and token piano-playing man, Kevin Baker.

Even the name of the town is a lady!
