(This stock footage writer is really having a time of it…)
Are you stuck on your TV or feature film script? Need an outside eye whose eyeballs have been writing professionally for over 10 years?
I am now offering freelance story editing services to emerging and mid-level writers. The fee is a sliding scale and negotiable depending on your budget, skill level and the time commitment of your project.
There’s no better feeling than solving a story problem that has plagued your brain and caused you to procrastinate so much that you’re vacuuming and going to the gym rather than sitting behind your keyboard. I can help get you unstuck.
Currently, my half-hour comedy GIVEN UP is in development with the CW Network. I have won a Canadian Screen Award for CORNER GAS: ANIMATED, was nominated for a Writer’s Guild of Canada Award for Best Writing: Comedy, and the feature film I co-wrote called THE BURNING SEASON won the Borsos Award for BEST SCREENPLAY at the Whistler Film Festival.
Here are a few testimonials from writers and producers I’ve worked with in the past:
“Diana story edited a project I developed with CBC that later moved to Amazon. She has the seriously rare combo of being good with comedy and story structure. Her notes always lead to making things better and her improv background gives her that ‘yes and’ attitude that’s so important when collaborating.” – Fab Fillipo (Sort Of – CBC/HBO Max)
“I’ve had the pleasure of hiring Diana on projects in development by CBC, Amazon and Bell Media. As an excellent collaborator in the room, Diana has the tremendous skill to elevate existing materials with her sense of humour and talent for great storytelling. When story editing, she understands how to write in the creator’s voice and help them elevate the project organically and surprisingly by bringing fresh and original ideas to the material.” – Lisa Baylin (Director of Scripted Development, Cineflix Media Inc.)
“I recently hired Diana as a story editor for a half-hour comedy series I have in development, as well as a feature film that is in pre-production and she brought so much to both projects. Insightful notes, hard work, a curious mind, a sharply comedic point of view, and the best dog ever.” – Bonnie McFarlane (Writer & stand-up comedian.)
“Diana is a talented writer/creator with excellent skills in story structure and script editing. I have worked with her in the past on my own projects and she’s been incredibly helpful and instrumental in improving them. I would not hesitate to hire her as a story editor and look forward to working with her again in the future.” – Andrew Carr (Corner Gas Animated)
“I asked Diana for some notes on my first screenplay and she ended up giving me (a playwright) a crash course in the craft of screenwriting in just a couple sessions. I then hired her as a story editor, and she gave me invaluable input that made my story so much more compelling. My screenplay ending up being a semi-finalist at the Austin Film Festival, where I made vital connections with literary managers, filmmakers and fellow writers. This wouldn’t have happened without Diana’s help. If you’re looking for someone to take your script to the next level… hire Diana.” – John Murphy (Writer, playwright)
