Bio

Diana Frances is an award-winning comedy writer and performer currently living in Toronto. Her half hour comedy, GIVEN UP (all about her gong-show life with adoption) is currently in development with the CW Network and is optioned with Blue Ant Media.

Her first feature film script, THE BURNING SEASON (co-written with Jonas Chernick) won the Borsos Prize for Best Screenplay at the 2023 Whistler Film Festival.

Diana won a 2020 Canadian Screen Award for CORNER GAS: ANIMATED and also received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for writing the 2019 CANADIAN SCREEN AWARDS (a real snake eating it’s own tail of nominations.) She was also nominated for a 2020 Writer’s Guild of Canada Award for Best Writing: Comedy. In 2017, Diana won the Sondra Kelly Award at the WGC Awards for GIVEN UP.

Diana is an alumni of the CFC Primetime TV Writing Program and has written for JFL GALAS (CBC/CTV/CW), AUNTY B’S HOUSE (CBC), LIGHTS ON CANADA DAY(CBC), THE BEAVERTON (Comedy Network), BAJILLIONAIRES (Family Channel) and STILL STANDING (CBC) and much more.

Diana has become known for her comedic skill writing awards show scripts and monologues. She has written for the 2018 & 2019 Canadian Screen Awards , The Toronto ACTRA Awards, RealScreen Awards, the Scotiabank Giller Prize, Walk of Fame, Director’s Guild of Canada Awards and more.

For 10 years she has written the Rockie Awards at the Banff World Media Festival with hosts such as Craig Robinson, Jully Black, Jann Arden, Kristin Chenoweth, Anthony Anderson, Wayne Brady,  Jason Priestley, Arisa Cox and Jaime Cahill.

Diana has been nominated for 8 Canadian Comedy Awards for ‘Best Female Improviser’ and is a Gemini nominated writer for The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos.
